Nestled in the charming suburbs of Cremorne, socially awkward is more than just a café; it's a haven for coffee enthusiasts and casual diners alike. Located at Unit 10/98 Dover St, this little gem has carved out a niche for itself among locals, who rave about its top-notch coffee and inviting atmosphere.

The moment you step inside, you’re greeted by a warm, friendly vibe that encourages you to linger a little longer. With a cozy yet modern interior, it offers the perfect backdrop for morning conversations or a mid-afternoon break. Patrons often describe it as having a relaxed, neighborhood feel, making it easy to want to become a regular after just one visit.

On the menu, you’ll discover a delightful array of offerings that cater to every craving. The coffee here is nothing short of stellar, made with high-quality beans that create a beautiful, rich flavor and a sumptuous froth. Donna L praises it as “the great coffee in good time,” and it’s hard to argue with the collective love from returning customers like Hannah Poole, who visits multiple times a week for that perfect morning cup.

For those looking for a quick bite, socially awkward excels with its fresh premade eats. The breakfast focaccias are a must-try, celebrated for their substantial flavor and hearty portions. One customer mentioned how they were "amazing," speaking volumes about the café’s commitment to quality and taste. Look out for the crispy almond croissants, which have been described as “fabulous” — the perfect pair to your cup of coffee!

However, not all dishes hit the mark for every pallet. Emma de Vries noted that while the spinach and cheese pastry was delightful, the salami focaccia could use a little more generosity in the toppings. Nonetheless, the friendly staff ensure that every visit is pleasant, contributing to the overall welcoming atmosphere that keeps customers coming back.

Whether you want to enjoy a quiet moment with a book or catch up with friends, socially awkward offers a delightful escape. From exceptional coffee to quick bites, this café stands out as a must-visit for anyone in the Richmond area. So, whether you are a local or just passing through, make it a point to stop by and see why so many have fallen in love with this charming spot.

A super little cafe that pumps out loads of great coffee in good time. Beautiful tasting milk with a good froth. Quick, fresh premade eats are also available. Dine in or take away. Crispy almond croissants are fabulous there too.

My favourite place for coffee. I come here multiple times a week for my morning coffee and they make it just right every time. The breakfast focaccias are amazing too. Staff friendly and efficient. Wouldn’t go anywhere else.

Socially Awkward is one of those little Richmond gems that makes you want to become a regular after just one visit. It has that relaxed, neighbourhood feel – welcoming, unpretentious, and full of personality – while still serving coffee at the absolute top tier. The space itself is cosy but modern, with a vibe that encourages you to slow down and actually enjoy your cup rather than just grab and go. The coffee is the star here. Smooth, well-balanced, and brewed with real skill – you can tell straight away they care about their beans and their craft. I had a flat white and it was flawless: creamy milk texture, perfect temperature, and the flavour profile of the coffee was bold but not bitter. My friend ordered an oat latte and was equally impressed, commenting it was one of the best plant-based coffees they’ve had in Melbourne. Beyond the coffee, the food options are thoughtful and tasty – simple but made with care. The pastries we tried were fresh, buttery, and paired perfectly with the coffee. It’s not about overwhelming you with an endless menu, but rather doing a few things really, really well. The staff make the experience even better. Friendly, chatty if you want a conversation, but equally happy to let you sit in your own little bubble if that’s the mood. They manage to make the name “Socially Awkward” feel playful and welcoming, never off-putting. Service was quick, efficient, and warm – everything you want from a local café. Socially Awkward is exactly the kind of café that makes Richmond special – great coffee, a unique personality, and that perfect balance between quality and comfort. Definitely a new favourite spot for me.

Spinach and cheese pastry is super yummy. Salami focaccia was a bit disappointing compared to the IGA Cafe round the corner - less generous toppings and less tasty for higher price. Staff are really friendly.

Had the best ever banana bread, perfectly toasted served with butter. The strong latte was also a winner
